Steve Baxter, of the Atlanta Manchester United Supporters Club, introduces us to another great supporters group in the Empire City of the South. Look for their "I Was There" segment this weekend on NBC Sports.
The Atlanta Manchester United Supporters Club is one of the largest groups in the southeast with over 200 members.
When we created the club we were well aware of a number of groups of fans in the Atlanta area that are just as passionate about supporting the club as we are. This was our catalyst to create a supporters club for Manchester United that aims to bring together all the fans in Atlanta. It was also clear that these fans are just as passionate about where they watch the game so we’re continually looking for ways to grow the club in a way that is totally inclusive and considerate of what the fans around the city are looking for and want to associate with.
We couldn’t have a better partner, and home base, than Fado Irish Pub in Midtown Atlanta. Every United fan that has been on the USA tour will know that Fado has partnered with OneUnited over the past few years to bring Legends events to Seattle, Chicago, and Washington D.C., and we’re excited about the prospect of what might be this summer. Fado is headquartered in Atlanta so we’re especially fortunate to have their support.
We’re also a part of a movement in Atlanta that is creating a network of premiership supporters clubs that have dedicated home pubs, that tie into in to local football initiatives such as Soccer in the Streets, Terminus Legion, the Silverbacks, as well as the new MLS Atlanta team arriving in 2017. For fans, being part of our club connects you with an entire network of organizations dedicated to football.
Watching the match with your fellow Reds is important but do we strive try to create a more complete experience for our members. For example, we have raffles each week where we give away really cool prizes. At the Derby match against city we gave away a signed Rooney shirt. This week, coming up against Chelsea, we have a signed Solksjaer shirt. We have Giggs, Scholes, and Bryan Robson shirts coming up next.
Finally, we also place a lot of value in creating national and local-level relationships with OneUnited and other Supporters Clubs in order to help promote the support of Manchester United across the country.
